Medical
Devices
A
medical device is an instrument, machine or implant intended for use in
the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of disease. A medical device can
be something as simple as a thermometer, or as complex as a
sophisticated joint implant. For many Canadians today, medical
technologies, such as heart pacemakers and implants, are not only
necessary to maintain good health, they are necessary for survival.
These critical devices are, at times, faulty or defective — seriously
harming, rather than helping, the individual. When this occurs, those
who manufacture these medical products should be held responsible.
We provide strategic
advice concerning the particular needs of medical
device companies such as licensing, patent and trademark protection,
corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and technology litigation.
We can advise on all types of regulatory
matters, such as labeling and advertising, record keeping and reporting
requirements, device tracking, good manufacturing practices, and recalls
and other corrective actions. We can assist in negotiating consent decrees and
voluntary agreements, defended seizure actions, and represent clients
in connection with criminal investigations.
Our
strategies are tailored to the individual needs of each client, with an
emphasis on efficiency and cost-effective use of resources. We believe
strongly that effective use of technology enables us to serve our
clients better and to conserve their financial resources. Technology is
not an end in itself, but rather a tool that, when properly used, can
bring significant efficiency to the delivery of legal services. Our
philosophy is to apply our significant technology resources to our
clients' needs in a cost-effective way that contributes value to our
clients' pursuit of their objectives.
